Today “Carmen” is the most famous and most performed French opera in the world. As the first opera ever, it brought a new social milieu to the opera stage with soldiers, smugglers and workers.

Carmen is a strong, desirable and self-confident woman who knows how she affects men. She does not allow herself to be restricted by love, wants to live out her freedom and defies all social conventions. When Don José, who demands absolute devotion from his chosen one, and the torero Escamillo find out that they are both vying for Carmen's love, they arrange a fight. Don José is racing with jealousy and the drama takes its course.

In just three months, Georges Bizet composed this world hit, charged with emotion and musical force. Carmen's “Habanera” and “Seguidilla” or Escamillo's “Couplet” became catchy tunes.
