On the 20th anniversary of the guqin's inclusion in UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Gong Linna introduces a fresh and appealing musical style combining the ancient instrument with song. The guqin reigns supreme in Chinese traditional culture, mentioned in the ancient Book of Rites as an essential possession of a learned scholar, inextricably linked with the literati tradition and further attesting to the importance of music in Chinese culture. Confucius was supposedly a guqin virtuoso, and the genre of guqin song developed and flourished in the Ming Dynasty. One of the most iconic pieces of the genre is Eighteen Songs of a Nomad Flute by Cai Wenji of the Eastern Han Dynasty chronicling the life and thoughts of an exiled heroine.
This concert program of Eighteen Songs of a Nomad Flute extends and expands the BMF's commitment to Chinese concepts, crafting Chinese stories in today's global musical language.
This concert also inaugurates a new BMF initiative at the Divine Music Administration at the Temple of Heaven. Three Park Matinees take place in this venue—a landmark located along Beijing's central axis closely associated with musical culture—as part of the BMF “Music in the Park” series, enriching the quality of city living, creating a new connection between musical culture and the Beijing metropolis.

在古琴艺术被联合国教科文组织列入世界第二批人类非物质文化遗产代表作名录二十周年之际，由龚琳娜带来的这场“古琴新风”音乐会将为听众展示“琴歌”这种迷人的演出形式，为古琴艺术带来新鲜的空气。古琴一直都是中国传统文化里地位最高的乐器，《礼记》里“士无故不撤琴瑟”的说法就是最好的证明。而“左琴右书”、“君子以琴书自娱”等说法，则表明音乐与文学在传统文化里不可分割。据说孔子就非常擅长用古琴弹唱，从此以古琴伴奏的“琴歌”逐渐发展，在明代达到鼎盛。琴歌的代表作《胡笳十八拍》，歌词是东汉女诗人蔡文姬所作，以浑厚气韵讲述了“文姬归汉”的宏大篇章。
本场音乐会由龚琳娜与乐队和古琴合作演绎的《胡笳十八拍》与北京国际音乐节对“中国概念”的不断延伸，致力于用世界语言讲好中国故事的艺术理念不谋而合。
本场演出将开启今年北京国际音乐节在天坛神乐署系列音乐会的序幕。作为文化遗产“北京中轴线”中与音乐文化关联紧密的文化地标，北京国际音乐节将在神乐署策划推出三场“樂动名园”音乐会，延续“都市系列”走进城市地标、深入城市生活的理念，创造音乐文化与北京城市生活的新连结。
