The human boy Mowgli loses his parents and grows up with wolves in the jungle, who save him from the tiger Shere Khan. Baloo the bear becomes his teacher and initiates him into the laws of the jungle, aided by Bagheera the panther. But Shere Khan doesn't tolerate people in the jungle. He convinces the wolves that Mowgli is not one of them and they must expel him from their community. Will Mowgli leave the jungle and find his place among humans?
The Italian cellist Giovanni Sollima is a musically free-spirited crosser between all styles and a versatile composer for all genres, from chamber music to large orchestral and theater works. With »Il libro della giungla«/»The Jungle Book« he is writing an opera for the whole family based on one of the most famous classics of colonial British literature, »The Jungle Book« by Rudyard Kipling (1865–1936). Not least thanks to the Disney film from 1967, the story of a foundling growing up in a completely strange, exotic world and finding his or her identity has become immortal.

The celebrated team around the Italian opera director Pier Francesco Maestrini and his congenial cartoonist colleague Joshua Held (»The Journey to Reims«, »The Barber of Seville«) ventures a completely new and completely different view of the well-known and popular story.

The unique format not only appeals to young and young-at-heart fans of the story from the jungle. Lovers of different genres are invited to join the young Mowgli on an adventure that will take them to new musical worlds of theatre.
