After a literal use of folk song in previous works, Noches en los jardines de España is the most brilliant work of Manuel de Falla's mature stage, from the same period as Siete canciones populares españolas or El amor brujo , a period that crystallizes in the sublimation of popular material and the recreation of an imaginary folklore. The Gardens of Spainde Santiago Rusiñol represent the creative origin of the score: in front, nature ordered by the human being; in the background, the wild and uncontrolled vision of this nature, all surrounded by an atmosphere of intimacy and mystery. Four nocturnes for piano in its beginnings, finally ended up being three pieces for piano and orchestra with an inexhaustible evocation of plastic images from the first garden (“En el Generalife”) about a dreamed Granada, which at the time only Falla knew through the work Granada, emotional guide by María Lejárraga.

Desire and death meet in La Demoiselle élue , written by Claude Debussy in full Wagnerian fervor, a cantata based on Dante Gabriel Rossetti's poem, which captures the evocative atmosphere of both the text and the homonymous oil.

Written in memory of a friend and admirer, and premiered by Eugène Ysaÿe and Joseph Hollman at a time of great recognition for her work, La muse et le poète (The Muse and the Poet) offers a magnificent example of the lyrical style and refined by Camille Saint-Saëns, which gives the soloists great expressive freedom.

Few piano concertos of the last hundred years enjoy the symbolic force of the Concerto for the Left Hand, one of Maurice Ravel's most comprehensive works, composed for the pianist Paul Wittgenstein, who had lost his right arm in the First World War .

Després d’un ús literal del cant popular en obres anteriors, Noches en los jardines de España és l’obra més brillant de l’etapa de maduresa de Manuel de Falla, de la mateixa època que Siete canciones populares españolas o El amor brujo, un període que cristal·litza en la sublimació del material popular i la recreació d’un folklore imaginari. Els Jardins d’Espanya de Santiago Rusiñol representen l’origen creatiu de la partitura: al davant, la naturalesa ordenada per l’ésser humà; al fons, la visió salvatge i descontrolada d’aquesta naturalesa, tot plegat envoltat d’una atmosfera d’intimitat i misteri. Quatre nocturns per a piano en els seus inicis, finalment van acabar sent tres peces per a piano i orquestra amb una inesgotable evocació d’imatges plàstiques des del primer jardí (“En el Generalife”) sobre una Granada somiada, que aleshores Falla només coneixia a través de l’obra Granada, guía emocional de María Lejárraga.

Pocs concerts per a piano dels últims cent anys gaudeixen de la força simbòlica del Concert per a la mà esquerra, una de les obres més rodones de Maurice Ravel, composta per al pianista Paul Wittgenstein, que havia perdut el braç dret a la Primera Guerra Mundial.
