The spoken-word opera The Theory of Everything follows eleven-year-old Nia’s magical and philosophical quest for more time. Her grandmother, a leading scientist, wants Nia to use her amazing mathematical skills to help her in her laboratory in a joint effort to solve the physics conundrum of the theory of everything. But Nia’s aunt, a famous dancer, sees Nia’s talent for dance and wants her to spend all her time in the dance studio so she can become a great soloist. Nia could do either and wants to do both, but she doesn’t know how to manage it. She feels forced to choose. If only she had more time...

A number of performances will be given especially for schools.

In de spoken word-opera De theorie van alles volg je de magisch-filosofische zoektocht van de 11-jarige Nia naar meer tijd. Haar oma, een vooraanstaand wetenschapper, wil dat Nia met haar ongelofelijke rekentalent elke dag in het laboratorium meehelpt om het natuurkundevraagstuk ‘de theorie van alles’ samen op te lossen. Maar haar oom, een beroemd danser, ziet Nia’s danstalent en wil dat ze al haar tijd doorbrengt in de dansstudio om een groot solist te worden. Nia kan én wil het allebei, maar ze weet niet hoe ze het allemaal voor elkaar kan krijgen. Ze voelt dat ze moet kiezen. Had ze maar meer tijd...

 

EEN NIEUWE SPEELRUIMTE
In De theorie van alles komen verschillende werelden samen: die van kunst en wetenschap, van opera en dans, maar ook die van de westerse en Afrikaanse filosofie. Door het begrip ‘tijd’ vanuit nieuwe oogpunten te bekijken, breekt deze voorstelling op speelse wijze een lans voor een andere kijk op de wereld en ons leven.

 

DE MAKERS
De theorie van alles is een initiatief van regisseur Naomi van der Linden en muzikaal leider Hanne van de Vrie. Eerder werkten zij bij De Nationale Opera al samen aan het Kinderkorenfestival en het project Operahelden. Voor deze muzikale familievoorstelling gaan ze aan de slag met de jonge componist Carlijn Metselaar en multi-disciplinair woordkunstenaar Roziena Salihu.

In the spoken word opera The Theory of Everything you follow the magical-philosophical quest of 11-year-old Nia for more time. Her grandmother, a leading scientist, wants Nia to help with her incredible math skills every day in the laboratory to solve the physics problem 'the theory of everything' together. But her uncle, a famous dancer, sees Nia's dancing talent and wants her to spend all her time in the dance studio to become a great soloist. A NEW PLAY AREA
Different worlds come together in The Theory of Everything : those of art and science, of opera and dance, but also those of Western and African philosophy. By looking at the concept of 'time' from new angles, this performance playfully advocates a different view of the world and our lives.

 

THE MAKERS
The theory of everything is an initiative of director Naomi van der Linden and musical director Hanne van de Vrie. They previously worked together at De Nationale Opera on the Children's Choir Festival and the Opera Heroes project. For this musical family performance they will work with the young composer Carlijn Metselaar and multi-disciplinary word artist Roziena Salihu.
