Erkki-Sven Tüür und Paavo Järvi kennen sich seit Jugendtagen, gemeinsam spielten sie in den 1970er Jahren in einer Rockband. Das ist lange her, statt im Rockclub treffen die beiden nun im Konzertsaal aufeinander, denn jeder hat inzwischen seinen anerkannten Platz in der Klassikwelt gefunden. In seinem Akkordeonkonzert »Prophecy« lässt Tüür den Klang des Akkordeons auf kreative Weise mit den verschiedenen Orchesterfarben verschmelzen. KSENIJA SIDOROVA, die als virtuose Botschafterin ihres Instruments gefeiert wird, übernimmt den Solopart. Während Claude Debussy sein Frühwerk »Printemps« als junger Stipendiat in der römischen Villa Medici komponierte, galt Sibelius bei der Entstehung seiner 5. Symphonie bereits als finnischer Nationalheld. Und noch ein Gegensatz: Während sich Debussy für »Printemps« von menschlichen Empfindungen im Frühling inspirieren ließ, waren es bei Sibelius‘ 5. Symphonie die Herbstsonne und die Abschiedsfarben der Natur. Berühmt geworden ist die »Fünfte« für das majestätische »Schwanenthema«, das Sibelius in den Sinn kam, als er den Flug von 16 Schwänen beobachtete.

Erkki-Sven Tüür and Paavo Järvi have known each other since their youth; in the 1970s, they played in a rock band together. That was a long time ago. Today, both have found their place in the classical music world and meet in concert halls rather than clubs.

In his accordion concerto Prophecy, Tüür creatively fuses the accordion’s sound with those of the orchestra. The soloist is Ksenija Sidorova, a celebrated virtuoso on her instrument. While a young Claude Debussy composed his early work Printemps as a fellow in the Roman Villa Medici, Sibelius was already a celebrated Finnish national hero when he composed his Symphony No 5. And while Debussy took his inspiration for Printemps from human reflection of spring, Sibelius drew on the autumn sun and nature’s colours of farewell for his fifth symphony. The latter became famous for the majestic “swan theme”, which Sibelius conceived while watching 16 swans in flight.
