On December 5, the premiere of Henry Purcell's opera Dido and Aeneas took place on the New Stage of the Bolshoi. Director Vincent Huguet presented a new version of this opera in the summer of 2018 at the festival in Aix-en-Provence, after which he was invited to stage it in Moscow. In this episode of the program, we will tell you how the mythological plot of this opera is in tune with modern times, why Vincent Huguet wanted to get into the Museum of the Revolution and how he met the orchestra of the Grand English Conductor Christopher Moulds, with whom he had worked more than once. __________________________________________________________ Question: Henry Purcell's opera is being staged at the Bolshoi Theater for the first time. And yet, the audience could see one production to the music of this composer on the New Stage. What was this performance? On what occasion was it shown and who stood at the conductor's stand? Answer: The play "Queen of the Indians" was shown on the new stage of the Bolshoi Theater as part of the competition program of the Golden Mask 2015 festival. It was staged jointly by the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre, the Royal Theater of Madrid and the English National Opera. Directed by Peter Sellars, conducted by Theodor Currentzis.
