Robert Gilbert In December 1927, heavily impressed by the American vocal quartet The Revelers , the drama student and arranger Harry Frommermann, who had just come of age, tried his luck with an advertisement in the Berliner Lokalanzeiger: “Tenor, bass (professional singer, not over 25), very musical, beautiful-sounding voices, for only existing ensemble wanted, stating the daily available time.” Among many others, Robert Biberti, a bass that is as enterprising as it is stubborn, appears for the audition. He brings Ari Leschnikoff and Roman Cycowski from the chorus of the Großes Schauspielhaus. Erich Collin and the pianist Erwin Bootz complete the ensemble in what is today its most famous formation. The close harmony arrangements united the six men; a close friendship and success welded them together. After an intensive rehearsal phase, the meteoric rise of the sextet began under the name Comedian Harmonists . But the anti-Semitic cultural policy of the National Socialists ended the success story: concert cancellations, performance bans, bureaucratic hurdles and anti-Semitic harassment determined not only the artistic everyday life of the Comedian Harmonists from 1933. Premiered in 1997 in the Komödie am Kurfürstendamm in Berlin, the play with music is about the history of the sextet, which has been remembered to this day by titles such as "My little green cactus", "Veronika, der Lenz ist da" or "Wochenend' und Sonnenschein".
