With the new production of Mozart's Singspiel by the award-winning director Nurkan Erpulat, who was born in Turkey and came to Berlin as a student in the early 2000s, a new, authentic and, above all, direct look at this work is to be thrown at the Volksoper. The focus is also on the female characters: "Especially with regard to the female characters, there are a lot of questions of sexual morality, honor and loyalty," says the director. But in the interplay of historical and political discourse as well as painful poetry, the work for Erpulat always remains a comedy - a Singspiel, a "folk opera" in the best sense!

Mit der Neuinszenierung von Mozarts Singspiel durch den preisgekrönten Regisseur Nurkan Erpulat, geboren in der Türkei, als Student Anfang der 2000er-Jahre nach Berlin gekommen, soll an der Volksoper ein neuer, authentischer und vor allem unmittelbarer Blick auf dieses Werk geworfen werden. Dabei rücken gerade auch die Frauenfiguren in den Fokus: „Gerade in Bezug auf die Frauenfiguren geht es auch viel um Fragen der Sexualmoral, der Ehre und Treue.“, so der Regisseur. Doch im Zusammenspiel von historischem und politischem Diskurs sowie schmerzerfüllter Poesie bleibt das Werk für Erpulat stets eine Komödie – ein Singspiel eben, eine „Volks-Oper“ im besten Sinne!
