Wagner's work Fairies was staged by the Košice Opera in its Slovak premiere. This first completed composer 's opera, still composed in the style of German Romanticism, strongly influenced by Carl Maria von Weber and Heinrich Marschner, was first performed in June 1888 in Munich, five years after the author' s death. It is interesting that the work was then studied by the young Richard Strauss, the premiere was conducted by Franz Fischer. Despite the fact that its performance was a success, over time this opera has almost completely fallen into oblivion and even today it is rarely performed. The romantic story of King Arindal's desire for love and an ideal world, set in the Bavarian realities of the end of the 19th century, was prepared by the management of the Košice Opera House with a renowned production team and guests.
