Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss (sons) is considered the high point of the golden operetta era. It was first performed in 1874 and is still the most performed music theater today. The overture is a masterpiece in itself. Written in a free sonata form, it is one of Johann Strauss' greatest creations.
