"The Merry Widow" is one of the most famous operettas of the classic in the operetta genre Franz Lehar. The Merry Widow is undoubtedly one of the pearls in the operetta genre, a mature, original work written by the hand of a master in his prime.
Here they find a happy combination and manifestation of all the features of his talent: the pursuit of psychology, melodic richness, creative response to modernity in the perspective of the operetta genre.

The music of the operetta is refined, full of fiery feeling, restrained mystery and unquenchable brilliance. The events of The Merry Widow take place in the early twentieth century. The setting is the embassy of the fictional state of Pontevedro in Paris
. The heroes are the charming Hannah and Danilo and the secular society known for its arrogance, hypocrisy and greed.

Hannah and Danilo's love - hidden, overshadowed by Hannah's offended pride and Danilo's fear that they might suspect him of favor; complicated by political considerations - the fate of an entire country depends on its outcome ... How will the duel between love and benefit be resolved? In favor of love, of course!

The premiere of this operetta took place on December 30, 1905 at the Theater an der Vinn. After its Viennese premieres and productions in Berlin and Hamburg, The Merry Widow continued its triumphant march through Milan, London and Paris around the world, reaching in 1925 the film version of Eric von Stroheim produced by Metro Goldwyn Meyer. "with superstars John Gilbert and May Murray.
There are three more films based on her plot - in 1934, 1952 and 1962. To this day, "The Merry Widow" marks a record number of performances everywhere. The Theater an der Vin has 483 performances, and around 60,000 worldwide, in the first 50 years of her stage life alone. And to date, their number has probably reached hundreds of thousands.

The first premiere took place on August 6, 1982, conductor Dragomir Nenov, directors Artur Pochikovski and Lena Vicheva, artists Mihailena Naidenova and Maria Naslednikova.
The main roles were played by the soloists: Konstantin Petkov, Ganka Dimova, Teodosii Kostov, Tatiana Nikolova, Arseniy Arsov and others.
