“Mozart's latest opera, 'The Magic Flute,' transports audiences into a
fantastical world of snakes, princesses, trials and mysteries. Good and evil fight, and
the truth and the outcome are elusive.

The story of 'The Magic Flute' begins in the middle of the action. Tamino, a
prince lost in a distant land, is hunted by a huge monster. He
is rescued by three mysterious ladies who kill the monster and give Tamino a
photo of Pamina, daughter of the Queen of the Night who has been captured by the evil
Sarastro. Tamino instantly falls in love with her and vows to rescue her from her.
With a magic flute and the help of the bird catcher Papageno, Tamino
sets out on the quest and soon discovers that nothing is what it seems at first
glance, not even night and day...


Kitambo, the Teatro Colón de Bogotá and the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra come together
to co-produce and adapt, with a Colombian tumbao and a disruptive and inclusive spirit,
a tribute to women in this great opera. A co-production that includes elements of our African heritage, drums and chromatic chonta marimba, with Rafael Palacios and his company Sankofa Danzafro and the Afro-Colombian designer Lía Samantha, who is in charge of the wardrobe with Carolina Loaiza.


This production, which closes the XXV Festival de Ópera al Parque, is carried out by a
top-level Colombian team with more than 100 artists, led by
stage director Ramiro Gutiérrez Castro, musical director Paola Ávila, the
Women's Philharmonic Orchestra, the set designer Henry Alarcón and a
special guest: the Congolese countertenor Serge Kakudji.

“La última ópera de Mozart, ‘La flauta mágica’, transporta al público a un mundo
fantástico de serpientes, princesas, pruebas y misterios. El bien y el mal luchan, y
la verdad y el desenlace son esquivos”.

La historia de ‘La flauta mágica’ comienza en medio de la acción. Tamino, un
príncipe perdido en una tierra lejana, es perseguido por un enorme monstruo. Lo
rescatan tres damas misteriosas que matan al monstruo y le dan a Tamino una
foto de Pamina, hija de la Reina de la Noche que ha sido capturada por el malvado
Sarastro. Tamino se enamora instantáneamente y jura rescatarla.
Con una flauta mágica y la ayuda del cazador de pájaros Papageno, Tamino
emprende la búsqueda y pronto descubre que nada es lo que parece a primera
vista, ni siquiera el día y la noche…


Kitambo, el Teatro Colón de Bogotá y la Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá se unen
para coproducir y adaptar, con tumbao colombiano y espíritu disruptivo e inclusivo,
un homenaje a la mujer en esta gran ópera. Una coproducción que incluye elementos de nuestra herencia africana, tambores y marimba de chonta cromática, con Rafael Palacios y sucompañía Sankofa Danzafro y la diseñadora afrocolombiana Lía Samantha, que se encarga con Carolina Loaiza del vestuario.


Este montaje, que cierra el XXV Festival de Ópera al Parque, es realizado por un
equipo colombiano de primer nivel con más de 100 artistas, liderado por el
director escénico Ramiro Gutiérrez Castro, la directora musical Paola Ávila, la
Orquesta Filarmónica de Mujeres, el escenógrafo Henry Alarcón y un invitado
Especial: el contratenor congoleño Serge Kakudji.
