Nordic Chamber Orchestra
The Nordic Chamber Orchestra was formed in 1990 and today consists of 35 musicians. In addition to symphony concerts in the subscription series, the Nordic Chamber Orchestra has a varied activity that includes projects in the field of children and young people, contemporary music and premieres, educational activities, chamber music and concerts with popular artists.
The orchestra performs in a number of places, most naturally in Sundsvall - the home stage - and Västernorrland, but the activities also include national and international assignments and tours. The orchestra also makes regular recordings.
Tomas Djupsjöbacka
Tomas Djupsjöbacka's roots lie deep in chamber music. With the string quartet Meta4 , he regularly performs around Central Europe's leading concert halls. Tomas is also the only Finnish member of the renowned Chamber Orchestra of Europe.
In recent times, conducting has taken up more and more space in Djupsjöbacka's musical life. He began private studies for the New York Metropolitan Opera's recent chief conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin as early as 2012 and continued at the Sibelius Academy's conductor class for prof. Atso Almila, from which he graduated in 2017. Tomas has also participated in master courses for Jorma Panula.
Already during his studies, Djupsjöbacka received invitations from the Central Ostrobothnia Chamber Orchestra, Avanti! and Tapiola Sinfonietta. In this now he has conducted almost all Finnish orchestras, including the RSO, the Helsinki City Orchestra and the Sinfonia Lahti. In the 2018-19 season, he returns to work with, among others, the Lapland Chamber Orchestra, Jyväskylä Sinfonia and the Central Ostrobothnia Chamber Orchestra. Djupsjöbacka has also been the conductor of Ylioppilaskunnan Soittajat since the autumn of 2017.
