He leaves no one in his path untouched. Don Giovanni, the most famous seducer in opera history, rages through life like a force of nature. Dutch National Opera resumes Claus Guth's successful production. Mozart's legendary seducer Don Giovanni was Mozart's second collaboration with librettist Lorenzo da Ponte, following their success with Le nozze di Figaro . The work would conquer the world as 'opera of operas', a rock-solid work that combines comedy, drama and supernatural elements into an unprecedentedly moving and layered operatic experience. Viva la libertà Directed by Claus Guth (previously Un ballo in maschera, Jephtha and Rodelinda at DNO), Don Giovanni is mortally wounded in the opening scene, and experiences the entire drama while slowly dying in a dark, moonlit forest by set designer Christian Schmidt. Face to face with death, Don Giovanni sticks to his life motto 'Viva la libertà' at all costs. After Die Entführung aus dem Serail in 2017, the French conductor Jérémie Rhorer returns for his second Mozart opera with DNO. Once again he is in charge of the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra. From the original 2016 cast, Romanian baritone Adrian Sâmpetrean returns as Don Giovanni's valet Leporello. He is accompanied by an exciting ensemble full of young talent. In the title role we hear and see the fantastic Seth Carico. Romanian soprano Adela Zaharia, winner of the Operalia singing competition 2017, returns to DNO after the concert stream of Ein deutsches Requiem to play the role of Donna Anna. The young Chinese tenor Long Long, one of the most exciting voices of his generation, makes his DNO debut as her sweet-voiced lover Don Ottavio. The young love couple Masetto and Zerlina are performed by two Dutch singers, soprano Lilian Farahani and bass-baritone Frederik Bergman.
