Jean-Baptiste Lully was one of the most influential artists of his time. He was admired for his enormous musical talent and organizational skills, feared and hated for his despotic, envious disposition. Thanks to cleverly played intrigues, he was the absolute ruler of the French musical world, and no opera performance could take place without his knowledge and consent. He was the court composer of Louis XIV, and his music was supposed to add splendor to court performances staged at the behest of the Sun King.

Lully, together with Molière, created a new stage genre called comedy ballet. It combined music, dance, singing and acting into an inseparable whole, requiring the performers to be both imaginative, versatile and mastering the craft. The "Great Baptists" (Molière's real name is Jean Baptiste Poquelin) created eleven works of the comédie-ballet genre together, and the premiere of each of them became a major event. During the concert at the National Forum of Music, the ensemble Le Poème Harmonique conducted by Vincent Dumestre will present fragments of eight works of this type. The most outstanding of them is considered to be the first exhibited in 1670, Bourgeois Nobleman. During the premiere, Molière played the role of Mr. Jourdain, and Lully danced as the grand mufti during the final Turkish ceremony. The whole concert will be crowned by Marche pour la cérémonie des Turcs , which is the last musical number from this play. Due to Lully's despotic disposition, his collaboration with Molière became increasingly difficult. At some point, the playwright approached the eminent and versatile composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier with an offer of cooperation. One of the works they produced together was Le mariage forcé , staged in 1672. Interestingly, as early as 1664 the comedy ballet was staged with Lully's music, but due to a conflict between the playwright and the composer, the former decided to commission new music.

Jean-Baptiste Lully należał do najbardziej wpływowych twórców swoich czasów. Podziwiano go za ogromny talent muzyczny i zdolności organizacyjne, bano się go i nienawidzono ze względu na despotyczne, zawistne usposobienie. Podczas koncertu w Narodowym Forum Muzyki zespół Le Poème Harmonique pod dyrekcją Vincenta Dumestre’a zaprezentuje fragmenty ośmiu tego typu dzieł. Za najwybitniejsze z nich uchodzi wystawiony po raz pierwszy w 1670 roku Mieszczanin szlachcicem. Podczas premierowego przedstawienia Molière wcielił się w rolę pana Jourdaina, a Lully tańczył jako wielki mufti w trakcie finałowej ceremonii tureckiej. Cały koncert zwieńczy Marche pour la cérémonie des Turcs, czyli ostatni numer muzyczny z tej sztuki. Ze względu na despotyczne usposobienie Lully’ego jego współpraca z Molière’em stawała się coraz trudniejsza. W pewnym momencie dramaturg zwrócił się z propozycją współpracy do wybitnego i wszechstronnego kompozytora Marc-Antoine’a Charpentiera. Jednym z dzieł, które razem stworzyli, było Le mariage forcé, wystawione w 1672 roku. Co ciekawe, już w 1664 roku komediobalet wystawiono z muzyką Lully’ego, ale na skutek konfliktu dramaturga i kompozytora ten pierwszy postanowił zamówić nową muzykę.
