Johann Sebastian Bach had not been alive for almost 60 years when Mendelssohn Bartholdy saw the light of day - and yet both should be important for the progress of the other. While Mendelssohn Bartholdy brought his forgotten idol back into the public consciousness in the 19th century, Bach was also formative for his own work. An impressive testimony to this influence is the oratorio "Paulus", which will be performed on Easter Sunday in Grafenegg with a star cast, including the rousing soprano Nikola Hillebrand as a soloist. The Frenchman Fabien Gabel, who is currently one of the Tonkunstler Orchestra's favorite conductors, will be on the podium. The Arnold Schoenberg Choir is called upon to perform the rousing choral passages in this wonderful work.
