The young Giro Lamenti, driven by nervousness to insomnia, is tormented by a typical fear scenario: the Abitur is due to take place the next day and he has forgotten everything. At night, Giro wanders through a library that has lost its original purpose. He encounters bizarre figures crawling out of the books and slumbering under the benches. Phantasms become objectified, real fears and surreal events mix beyond recognition. A comical and fantastical opera about the dying world of books, exams and lack of concentration. The libretto was by Ermanno Cavazzoni, who already provided the template Federico Fellini's film The Voice of the Moon, based on his novel Midnight High School. The Italian composer Lucia Ronchetti works with various music-theatrical forms: choral operas for ensembles with amateur choirs are just as much a part of this as music-theatrical experiments without a stage.
