Faust Gounod

Faust , one of the most important titles in the French repertoire, is a famous lyric drama by Charles Gounod with a libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré, based on the play by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
The work focuses on the story of Doctor Faust, an elderly scholar who, tired of life, decides to end it, curses God and invokes the Devil. Suddenly Mephistopheles appears to him and the two make a pact: the devil offers eternal youth to old Faust in exchange for his soul.
The show combines instrumentalists, opera singers and actors in a version of the drama that alternates spoken dialogue with a reduction of the main musical numbers.

Faust, fra i titoli più importanti del repertorio francese, è un celebre dramma lirico di Charles Gounod su libretto di Jules Barbier e Michel Carré, tratto dal testo teatrale di Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
L’opera è incentrata sulla vicenda del dottor Faust, studioso anziano che, stanco della vita, decide di farla finita, maledice Dio e invoca il Diavolo. Improvvisamente Mefistofele gli appare e i due stringono un patto: il diavolo offre l’eterna giovinezza al vecchio Faust in cambio della sua anima.
Lo spettacolo unisce strumentisti, cantanti lirici e attori in una versione del dramma che alterna dialoghi parlati a una riduzione dei principali numeri musicali.
