GAIA-24. Opera del Mondo is a gripping geohistorical performance by award-winning Ukrainian composer duo Roman Grygoriv and Illia Razumeiko. The impressive project shows the raw reality of our planet and the devastating impact of human actions, in light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Enter a world where Mother Earth raises her voice in powerful tones and images. In the midst of the chaos, Opera Aperta wonders amidst beams of light and video projections whether we can still hear what Mother Earth is saying. An inventive performance that explores the boundaries of music, theatre and ecology.

“When the earth gives a rich harvest, be ready for a great war. When seas dry up, rivers change their paths and forests become uninhabitable by radiation – an empire will soon fall. When the end of the world comes, earth and sky will become one. This is how Gaia, Gaea, Terra, Maga, Mother Gaia speaks to us.”

GAIA-24. Opera del Mondo is een aangrijpende geohistorische performance van het bekroonde Oekraïense componistenduo Roman Grygoriv en Illia Razumeiko. Het indrukwekkende project toont de rauwe realiteit van onze planeet en de verwoestende impact van menselijke acties, in het licht van de Russische invasie in Oekraïne.

Stap binnen in een wereld waar moeder aarde haar stem verheft in krachtige tonen en beelden. Midden in de chaos vraagt Opera Aperta zich tussen lichtstralen en videoprojecties af of we wel nog steeds kunnen horen wat moeder aarde zegt. Een inventieve voorstelling die de grenzen van muziek, theater en ecologie verkent.

“Wanneer de aarde een rijke oogst geeft, wees dan klaar voor een grote oorlog. Wanneer zeeën opdrogen, rivieren hun paden veranderen en bossen onbewoonbaar worden door straling – een rijk zal spoedig vallen. Wanneer het einde van de wereld komt, worden de aarde en de hemel één. Dit is hoe Gaia, Gaea, Terra, Maga, Moeder Gaia tot ons spreekt.”

GAIA-24 is onderdeel van First Night, de openingsavond van O. 2024. Na afloop van de openingsvoorstelling kun je overal in de schouwburg previews meemaken van voorstellingen die later in het festival te zien zijn.
