Il primo brano in programma è Speaking Drums di Peter Eötvös, in cui si unisce il parlato e il suo ritmo alle percussioni usando come base tre poesie di Sándor Weöres e una di Jayadeva, in modo simile allo Sprechgesang del jazz o delle percussioni tradizionali indiane. Lo spartito della nona sinfonia di Franz Schubert fu presentato nel 1828 alla Società degli amici della musica di Vienna per una esecuzione pubblica che però non ebbe luogo anche a causa della morte di Schubert pochi mesi dopo. Fu Robert Schumann, nel 1839, a ritrovare per caso la partitura fra le carte del compositore e a promuoverne l'esecuzione a Lipsia con Felix Mendelssohn alla direzione d'orchestra.

The first piece on the program is Speaking Drums by Peter Eötvös, in which speech and its rhythm are combined with percussion using three poems by Sándor Weöres and one by Jayadeva as a basis, similar to the  Sprechgesang  of jazz or traditional Indian percussion.
The score of Franz Schubert's ninth symphony was presented in 1828 to the Society of Friends of Music in Vienna for a public performance which, however, did not take place due to Schubert's death a few months later. It was Robert Schumann, in 1839, who accidentally found the score among the composer's papers and promoted its performance in Leipzig with Felix Mendelssohn conducting.
