Greek-Scottish soprano Annie Fassea accompanied by Dimitra Kokkinopoulou were finalists in the 1st International Song Competition "Bolko von Hochberg", which took place in Görlitz in June 2022 under the motto "Hellas". They received a special prize for their particularly intensive dramatic interpretation of songs by Schubert, Jean Coulthard or Hugo Wolf.

They present a program inspired by Greek classics in the baroque Rammenau Palace. Since the renaissance of opera in Florence in the 16th century. Greek mythology and history continues to inspire poets and composers today. This source of inspiration will probably never dry up!

Franz Schubert wrote over 30 songs with Greek themes, some of which the artists will also present in Rammenau. These are songs based on Schiller's poetry such as "Group from Tartarus" or "The Gods of Greece" or Johann Mayrhofer's "Atys" and "Memon". The first part of the program also includes songs by Canadian composer Jean Coulthard, songs by Hugo Wolf and Greek composer Georgios Kassasoglou and finally the beautiful song "Gute Nacht" by Bolko von Hochberg. In the second part of the evening, the coloratura soprano will sing arias from works by Mozart, Cherubini, Rossini and French composers such as Henri Büsser. These are operas like "Idomeneo", "Assedio di Corinto" or "Dafnis et Chloé".

Artist biographies

The very young Greek-Scottish soprano Anna Fassea inspires with her multi-faceted voice and impressive dramatic talent. She is a prize winner of the "Jacques Offenbach Grand Prix 2021" and a recipient of the "Fulbright Foundation Artist's Scholarship 2019". She made her debut in 2019 at the Greek National Opera (GNO) in the role of Barbarina (Le Nozze di Figaro). Since then she has collaborated with such orchestras as Cyprus Symphony Orchestra (CYSO), Győr Philharmonic Orchestra, Athens Symphonic Orchestra, Youth Orchestra ELSON and Hellenic Radio Orchestra. In 2020 she sang Illia in Mozart's "Idomeneo" and soprano in Mahler's 4th Symphony with the Athens Symphonic Orchestra in Athens and Cyprus. In the past she has appeared as Olympia (Les Contes d'Hoffmann), Papagena (The Magic Flute), Suor Osmina (Suor Angelica), Amante (Il tabarro), but also in Pergolesi's "Stabat mater". Most recently she sang the song cycle "Dichterliebe" by Schumann and the role of Chloé ("Daphnis et Chloé" by Henri Büsser) in Mytilene, the Queen of the Night (The Magic Flute - Mozart) in Athens and had her first appearance in Germany at an opera gala with arias from Verdi's "La Traviata". Anna obtained her Diploma in Opera Singing from the Athenaeum Conservatory with Christina Giannakopoulou in 2017 and was a member of the Greek National Opera’s training program for young artists “The Young Opera Generation” in the 2017/2018 season. Most recently she sang the song cycle "Dichterliebe" by Schumann and the role of Chloé ("Daphnis et Chloé" by Henri Büsser) in Mytilene, the Queen of the Night (The Magic Flute - Mozart) in Athens and had her first appearance in Germany at an opera gala with arias from Verdi's "La Traviata". Dimitra Kokkinopoulou was born in Athens, where she completed her piano studies at the Athens Conservatory in 2007 with N. Nikolaidou. From 2007 to 2012 she studied at the Ionian University of Corfu. In 2014 she received her master's degree from Bowling Green State University (USA) with Dr. Robert Satterlee and began work on her doctorate in piano interpretation at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln under the supervision of Dr. Ann Chang, which she received in 2017. Since then she has been a permanent employee at the "Internationale Musiktage Brache" in Germany. Since 2018 she has been working as a piano accompanist in collaboration with the mezzo-soprano Irini Tsirakidis and teaches piano at the Athenaeum Conservatory in Athens. She is also a member of the trio "Thesis" with Irini Tsirakidis (mezzo-soprano) and Yorgos Kaloudis (cello, classical Cretan lyra), which performs works by Greek composers. In cooperation with the team "Thea-tree" (Thea-tree.gr ) creates and realizes educational programs and plays for children in schools and cultural centers. She is a member of the social enterprise PhonoQuest ( phonoquest.com ), which brings together the art and science of the human voice through seminars, conferences and social events. She has also given numerous concerts in Germany, Portugal, Greece and the United States of America.

Die griechisch-schottische Sopranistin Annie Fassea begleitet von Dimitra Kokkinopoulou waren Finalistinnen des 1.Internationalen Lied-Wettbewerbs „Bolko von Hochberg“, der im Juni 2022 unter dem Motto „Hellas“ in Görlitz stattgefunden hat. Für ihre besonders intensive dramatische Interpretation von Liedern von Schubert, Jean Coulthard oder Hugo Wolf erhielten sie einen Sonderpreis.

Sie präsentieren im Barockschloss Rammenau ein von der griechischen Klassik inspiriertes Programm. Seit der Renaissance der Oper in Florenz im 16.Jhd. inspiriert die griechische Mythologie und Geschichte Dichter und Komponisten bis heute. Diese Quelle der Anregung wird wohl niemals versiegen!

So schrieb Franz Schubert über 30 Lieder mit Griechischer Thematik, einige davon werden die Künstlerinnen auch in Rammenau vorstellen. Das sind Lieder nach Lyrik von Schiller wie „Gruppe aus dem Tartarus“ oder „Die Götter Griechenlands“ oder Johann Mayrhofers „Atys“ und „Memon“. Der erste Teil des Programms enthält auch Lieder der kanadischen Komponistin Jean Coulthard, Lieder von Hugo Wolf und des griechischen Komponisten Georgios Kassasoglou sowie schliesslich das schöne Lied „Gute Nacht“ von Bolko von Hochberg. Im zweiten Teil des Abends wird die Koloratursopranistin Arien aus Werken von Mozart, Cherubini, Rossini und französischen Komponisten wie Henri Büsser singen. Das sind Opern wie „Idomeneo“, „Assedio di Corinto“ oder „Dafnis et Chloé“.

Zuletzt sang sie den Liederzyklus „Dichterliebe“ von Schumann und die Rolle der Chloé („Daphnis et Chloé“ von Henri Büsser) in Mytilini, die Königin der Nacht (Die Zauberflöte – Mozart) in Athen und hatte ihren ersten Auftritt in Deutschland bei einer Operngala mit Arien aus Verdis „La Traviata“. Anna erwarb 2017 ihr Diplom in Operngesang am Athenaeum Konservatorium bei Christina Giannakopoulou und war in der Saison 2017/2018 Mitglied des Ausbildungsprogramms für junge Künstler „Die junge Operngeneration“ der Griechischen Nationaloper.

Dimitra Kokkinopoulou wurde in Athen geboren, wo sie 2007 ihr Klavierstudium am Konservatorium von Athen bei N. Nikolaidou abgeschlossen hat. Von 2007 bis 2012 studierte sie an der Ionischen Universität auf Korfu. 2014 erwarb sie ihren Master-Abschluss an der Bowling Green State University (USA) bei Dr. Robert Satterlee und begann die Arbeit an ihrem Doktortitel in Klavier-Interpretation an der University of Nebraska-Lincoln unter der Anleitung von Dr. Ann Chang , den sie 2017 erhielt. Seitdem ist sie feste Mitarbeiterin bei den „Internationalen Musiktage Brache“ in Deutschland. Seit 2018 ist sie als Klavierbegleiterin in Zusammenarbeit mit der Mezzosopranistin Irini Tsirakidis tätig und unterrichtet Klavier am Athenaeum Konservatorium in Athen. Darüber hinaus ist sie Mitglied des Trios „Thesis“ mit Irini Tsirakidis (Mezzosopran) und Yorgos Kaloudis (Cello, klassische kretische Lyra), das Werke griechischer Komponisten aufführt. In Zusammenarbeit mit dem Team „Thea-tree“ (Thea-tree.gr) kreiert und realisiert sie Bildungsprogramme und Theaterstücke für Kinder in Schulen und Kulturzentren.
