Caratterizzato da siparietti divertenti su intrecci di amori galeotti, musiche melodiche e personaggi buffi, Il Paese dei Campanelli, è ambientato in un’immaginaria isola olandese, dove c’è un paese che porta questo nome per i campanelli posti su ogni casa. Secondo una leggenda, questi magici ornamenti sonano se uno dei due coniugi abitanti della casa, tradisce l’altro, in modo che tutto il paese venga a conoscenza del peccato che si è compiuto. Grazie al timore che la leggenda possa esser vera, la vita nel paese scorre tranquilla fino a quando approda sull’isola una nave militare inglese, costretta ad attraccare per un guasto ad un motore. Gli ufficiali scendono a terra ed accade l’inevitabile. Il marinaio La Gaffe s’innamora di Bon Bon la più bella e spumeggiante del paese, ma per uno dei suoi proverbiali errori finirà a far suonare il campanello con Pomerania, la più brutta del paese, il Capitano Hans s’innamora della dolce Nela e anche loro faranno suonare il campanello. Nel corso della vicenda i campanelli suoneranno molte volte, anche perché per colpa di La Gaffe arriveranno sull’isola le mogli degli ufficiali, che, tradite, in qualche modo vorranno vendicarsi. Alla fine, come ogni operetta che si rispetti, tutti saranno perdonati ma gli abitanti del paese sanno che possono liberarsi dell’incantesimo dei campanelli, se nel giorno che scandisce il centesimo anno dalla nascita della leggenda i campanelli rimarranno in silenzio. Quel giorno cade proprio durante la sosta degli ufficiali. Tutti sono avvertiti, nessuno vuole trasgredire e aspettano lo scoccare dell’ora che libererà il paese dalla leggenda ma …. La Gaffe ne farà una delle sue rovinando tutto?

Characterized by amusing entr'actes on plots of convict loves, melodic music and funny characters, Il Paese dei Campanelli is set in an imaginary Dutch island, where there is a town that bears this name for the bells placed on every house. According to a legend, these magical ornaments chime if one of the two spouses who live in the house cheats on the other, so that the whole village is aware of the sin that has been committed. Thanks to the fear that the legend might be true, life in the country flows peacefully until an English military ship lands on the island, forced to dock due to an engine failure. The officers go ashore and the inevitable happens. The sailor La Gaffe falls in love with Bon Bon, the most beautiful and sparkling in the country, but for one of his proverbial mistakes he will end up ringing the bell with Pomerania, the ugliest in the country, Captain Hans falls in love with sweet Nela and they too will ring the bell. During the story the bells will ring many times, also because because of La Gaffe the wives of the officers will arrive on the island, who, betrayed, will somehow want to take revenge. In the end, like any self-respecting operetta, everyone will be forgiven but the inhabitants of the town know that they can free themselves from the spell of the bells, if on the day that marks the hundredth year from the birth of the legend, the bells remain silent. That day falls just during the stop of the officers. Everyone is warned, no one wants to transgress and they are waiting for the hour to free the country from legend but….
