Il turco in Italia When a Turk comes to Italy, the married women roll their eyes in ecstasy, the rival lovers lose out and the husbands rage with jealousy. They're silly clichés. But that's what this dramma buffo is about. The composer Gioachino Rossini plays with them, and quite consciously: he knows that he is dealing with the foreign woman seducer Selim, the enterprising young woman Fiorilla who is chained to the stove at home and the ridiculous, because far too old husband Geronio archetypes of Italian comedy puts on stage and enjoys the parodic exaggeration. You can tell by the fact that he introduced a poet to the plot, Il turco in Italia was first performed in Milan in 1813 , but the clichés in encounters with foreign cultures have not changed that much to this day: If a Turk comes to Italy, prejudices, commonplaces and misunderstandings are still not far away. In addition to the fast-paced music and the breakneck virtuoso arias, the plot also offers good reasons to bring this Rossini opera to the stage in a new production. The German director Jan Philipp Gloger, who recently realized an original reading of Vivaldi's opera La verità in cimento in Zurich , will direct the play. Of course, buffo fun penned by Rossini only works if it is kindled by spirited musicians and solo singers. This is ensured by Enrique Mazzola at the conductor's podium, Julie Fuchs in the virtuoso role of Fiorilla, surrounded by Rossini-tested actors such as Edgardo Rocha, Nahuel Di Pierro, Renato Girolami and Rebeca Olvera.
