Conductor and harpsichordist Richard Egarr is one of the musical world’s most charismatic figures, injecting his performances with infectious energy and joy, and bringing a sense of wonder and adventure to all he directs. For many years an SCO Associate Artist, Egarr returns for the high drama and epic spectacle of one of Handel’s most thrilling, theatrical oratorios. With its plagues of flies and frogs, its impenetrable darkness and flashes of lightning, Israel in Egypt tells the story of Exodus, as Moses and the Children of Israel flee Egypt and make their perilous crossing of the Red Sea – in some of Handel’s most colourful, intensely expressive music. Egarr is joined by six brilliant soloists and the SCO Chorus for this gripping, galvanising choral masterpiece.
