Seit mehr als 20 Jahren schon leitet Sir Antonio Pappano das altehrwürdige Royal Opera House in London, nun warten neue Aufgaben auf den Dirigenten in der englischen Hauptstadt, wenn er als Nachfolger von Sir Simon Rattle Chefdirigent beim London Symphony Orchestra wird.

Nur wenige Monat nach Pappanos Amtsantritt gastiert die vielversprechende Künstler-Kombi in Köln mit einem Programm, das die ganze Vielfalt des Klangkörpers zeigt. Die impressionistischen Naturschilderungen von Lili Boulanger treffen darin auf die schwelgerisch-strömende Spätromantik von Sergej Rachmaninow. Dazwischen steht das Violinkonzert von Samuel Barber, das im atemberaubenden Schlusssatz ein brillant-virtuoses Feuerwerk abbrennt. Bei der für ihr delikates Violinspiel gefeierten Janine Jansen liegt das in den allerbesten Geigenhänden.

Sir Antonio Pappano has been leading the venerable Royal Opera House in London for more than 20 years, and now new tasks await the conductor in the English capital when he succeeds Sir Simon Rattle as chief conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra.

Just a few months after Pappano took office, the promising artist combination will be performing in Cologne with a program that shows the full diversity of the ensemble. The impressionistic depictions of nature by Lili Boulanger meet the voluptuous, flowing late romanticism of Sergej Rachmaninoff. In between is Samuel Barber's Violin Concerto, which sets off a brilliant, virtuosic firework display in the breathtaking final movement. Janine Jansen, who is celebrated for her delicate violin playing, has the very best violin hands.
