Deux versions de l’histoire biblique de Jephté : celle de Carissimi, au milieu du XVIIe siècle, et celle de Draghi, un peu plus tardive. 

Avant d’attaquer les Ammonites, Jephté promit d’offrir à Dieu, en cas de victoire, la première personne qui viendrait vers lui à son retour. Las ! ce fut sa fille unique. L’histoire biblique a beaucoup inspiré les artistes – en musique, citons notamment Haendel, Charpentier, mais aussi Montéclair ou Elisabeth-Claude Jacquet de la Guerre. Les Arts Florissants, qui ont interprété plusieurs de ces partitions, se tournent pour ce concert vers l’oratorio de Giacomo Carissimi (que Handel et Charpentier connaissaient tous deux) et vers celui d’Antonio Draghi, une œuvre très peu connue, représentative de l’oratorio viennois

Two versions of the biblical story of Jephthah: that of Carissimi, in the middle of the 17th century, and that of Draghi, a little later. 

Before attacking the Ammonites, Jephthah promised to offer to God, in case of victory, the first person who would come to him on his return. The ace ! it was his only daughter. The biblical story has greatly inspired artists – in music, let us mention in particular Handel, Charpentier, but also Montclair or Elisabeth-Claude Jacquet de la Guerre. Les Arts Florissants, who have interpreted several of these scores, are turning for this concert to the oratorio by Giacomo Carissimi (whom Handel and Charpentier both knew) and to that of Antonio Draghi, a very little known work, representative of the Viennese oratorio.
