Kadınlar Yeterince Bekledi
Oratorio / OrchestralConcert
"Soprano Katharine Dain delivers a powerful and touching performance of three characters." – Volkskrant Contemporary novels, which have received great attention in recent years by addressing Greek mythology from a female perspective, inspired the They Have Waited Long Enough project. After the project received great acclaim at the WonderFeel Festival in Amsterdam, the Istanbul Music Festival ordered three female composers for a three-part piece for Turkish instruments such as soprano, string quartet and duduk, qanun and classical kemençe for the second phase of the project. The second leg of the project , Women Have Waited Enough , with its world premiere at the 51st Istanbul Music Festival, this time expands its scope beyond Greek mythology and focuses on the legendary and real female characters of this geography. The Women Have Waited Enoughwas conceived as a three-part piece written by talented female composers from the Netherlands, Turkey and Iran. Composer Meriç Artaç, inspired by Şahmeran, one of the most mysterious mythological heroes of Anatolian culture, composed the first part of the piece for string quartet, soprano and duduk. Kate Moore and Aida Shirazi, on the other hand, gave one of the two separate parts they composed for string quartet, soprano, kemençe and zither to Kassia, a Byzantine high priestess, poet, composer and hymn writer, and journalist-writer Suat. Dedicated to Dervish. The libretto of the work, which is united in three sections and dedicated to three important female characters by three different composers, features the signature of successful journalist and writer Ece Temelkuran, who is known for the importance she gives to women's stories. The soprano Katharine Dain, who is remembered with her successful performance in the first project, will be the voice of three characters in the second leg of the project. He is accompanied on stage by the Nemeth Quartet, classical violinist Elif Canfeza Gündüz, Dutch duduk player Raphaëla Danksagmüller and qanun player Esra Berkman. After this first step towards the east, the project will continue its life as a series, focusing on historical and legendary women first from Europe and then from all over the world. Women Have Waited Enough is one of the most exciting concerts of the 51st Istanbul Music Festival with its contemporary narration of women's stories from the perspective of strength and courage.
