Elke reden is goed om het oeuvre van Karel Goeyvaerts onder de aandacht te brengen. Dit keer is er, gelukkig, helemaal geen ontkomen aan. In 2023 zou de Antwerpse componist namelijk 100 geworden zijn. Onbekend bij het grote publiek, was Goeyvaerts in de jaren 50 van de vorige eeuw wegbereider in de ontwikkeling van zowel het serialisme als de elektronische muziek. Maar er is veel meer te ontdekken dan zijn baanbrekende experimenten. Initiëren doet hij vanaf de jaren 60 wat minder, toch blijft hij de nieuwste ontwikkelingen, vanop een afstand, op de voet volgen. 

Onder leiding van Filip Rathé brengt I SOLISTI een aantal hoogtepunten uit het niet minder verrassende late oeuvre van Goeyvaerts. Litanie I is een prachtig voorbeeld van Goeyvaerts’ eigenzinnige take op het minimalisme. De laatste tien jaar van zijn leven staan dan weer in het teken van de grootschalige opera Aquarius, waaruit hier twee fragmenten gebracht worden. Creaties van Benjamin Van Esser en Tim Mulleman vervolledigen deze meer dan gepaste hommage aan een ondergewaardeerd kunstenaar.

Every reason is good to bring Karel Goeyvaerts' oeuvre into the spotlight. This time, there is absolutely no escape. In 2023, the Antwerp composer would have turned 100. Despite being relatively unknown to the general public, Goeyvaerts was a trailblazer in the development of both serialism and electronic music in the 1950s. However, there is much more to discover than just his groundbreaking experiments. While he initiated fewer projects from the 1960s onwards, he continued to closely follow the latest developments from a distance.

Under the direction of Filip Rathé, I SOLISTI presents some highlights from Goeyvaerts' equally surprising late works. Litanie I is a beautiful example of Goeyvaerts' idiosyncratic take on minimalism. The last ten years of his life were dedicated to the large-scale opera Aquarius, from which two fragments are presented here. Creations by Benjamin Van Esser and Tim Mulleman complete this more than appropriate tribute to an underrated artist.
