A young woman knocks on the door of a loft apartment in Stockholm's old town. A young writer opens, and one of the greatest love stories in music history begins.

Puccini's Parisian drama unfolds in this production in Stockholm with the bohemians of Scandinavia in the lead roles. Here we meet August Strindberg as the writer Rodolfo, Edvard Munch as the painter Marcello, Edvard Grieg as the composer Schaunard and Søren Kierkegaard as the philosopher Colline. The cabaret singer Musetta is Tulla Larsen, who had a long and stormy relationship with Munch. Mimi remains a fictional character.

This is one of our very favorite operas. It is staged regularly all over the world, and we never cease to be moved by Puccini's intense and endlessly beautiful music.

Director José Cura is behind this opera production, which was performed at the Stockholm Opera in the spring of 2023.
