The action in Scènes de la vie de bohème by the Frenchman Henri Murger takes place in 1830. These stories were first published in a magazine, but were then dramatized and in 1851 published together. In 1896, Puccini and his librettists created one of the greatest successes of all time with their opera version La Bohème.
