"La Cenerentola" - in German "Cinderella" - is the fairytale material that Gioacchino Rossini turned into a bel canto comedy in 1817, one year after his famous "Barber of Seville". With his librettist, Rossini transformed Perrault's romantic fairytale template into a Italian opera that combines the models of opera buffa and traditions of the commedia dell'arte with the ideals of the Enlightenment and sublime social criticism.With the conductor Baldo Podic and the director, stage and costume designer Nigel Lowery, a management team celebrated by the international press is at work , which proved last season with "Hänsel und Gretel" that a fairy tale opera can be much more than harmless family entertainment.

"La Cenerentola - auf deutsch "Aschenbrödel" - ist der Märchenstoff, den Gioacchino Rossini 1817, ein Jahr nach seinem berühmten "Barbier von Sevilla" zu einem Bel-Canto-Lustspiel verarbeitet hat. Mit seinem Librettisten verwandelte Rossini die romantische Märchenvorlage Perraults zu einer italienischen Oper, die Vorbilder der Opera buffa und Traditionen der Commedia dell’arte mit den Idealen der Aufklärung und sublimer Gesellschaftskritik verknüpft. Mit dem Dirigenten Baldo Podic und dem Regisseur, Bühnen- und Kostümbildner Nigel Lowery ist ein von der internationalen Presse gefeiertes Leitungsteam am Werk, das vergangene Saison mit "Hänsel und Gretel" bereits bewiesen hat, dass eine Märchenoper weit mehr als harmlose Familienunterhaltung sein kann.
