The Teatro Grande of Brescia will be the leader of one of the most precious titles in the Italian repertoire: La Fanciulla del West, an opera composed by Giacomo Puccini in 1910 for the Metropolitan of New York, conducted on that occasion by Arturo Toscanini and received with a sensational success from the audience. The Puccini’s Fanciulla has not been performed in Brescia since 1978. The opera will debut at the Teatro Grande on September 24th, with a repeat on September 26th.

La Fanciulla del West is certainly one of the most fascinating titles of twentieth century melodrama, the borderline between opera and the soundtrack of that new artistic medium that was emerging: cinema. It is precisely the desire for innovation, the curiosity for exoticism, the moment of great restlessness that the composer from Lucca was experiencing, that was the context for the creation of this masterpiece of the Opera House of the last century, a masterpiece that takes its cue from David Belasco’s drama The Girl of the Golden West.

The cast includes some of the most interesting voices of the contemporary opera scene: Rebeka Lokar (Minnie), Angelo Villari (Dick Johnson) and Devid Cecconi (Jack Rance). The poster is completed by Andrea Concetti in the role of Ashby, Didier Pieri (Nick the bartender), Valdis Jansons (Sonora), Marco Miglietta, Federico Cavarzan, Ramiro Maturana, Antonio Mandrillo, Giuseppe Raimondo, Matteo Loi, Maurizio Lo Piccolo (the miners), Gaetano Triscari (Billy Jackrabbit), Candida Guida (Wowkle), Alessio Verna (Wallace), Marco Tomasoni (Castro), Alessandro Mundula (A postillion). The numerous roles provided by the score – which require a strong and precise characterization and rigorous preparation in their parts – will be joined by 24 artists from the OperaLombardia men’s choir, to complete a picture of high-level interpreters for this new production. On the podium, at the helm of the I Pomeriggi Musicali Orchestra, the talented Lucchese Valerio Galli, one of the most appreciated contemporary Puccini performers and interpreters who has already conducted Tosca in Brescia in 2018. Directed by Andrea Cigni who for the OperaLombardia circuit has signed successful productions including Roméo et Juliette in 2011 and Tosca in 2018, flanked by Dario Gessati for the sets, for the costumes by Tommaso Lagattolla and for the lights by Fiammetta Baldiserri.
