Strong women are a constant in Donizetti's production. Among all, Marie, protagonist of the Fille du régiment , is the sunniest and at the same time the least feminine: she was raised by a regiment of the Napoleonic army , she has learned to love her homeland and… to swear like a soldier. For her the girl changes everything when she, arrived in the mountains of the Tyrol, she discovers that she is the daughter of a marquise ; her aristocratic life, however, darkens her: she will rediscover the smile and love of her beloved Tonio with the help of her many military "dads".

Composed in Paris in 1840, this is Donizetti's first and most successful French opera . Having put aside all snobbery, the transalpines immediately fell in love with it and for years adopted the Salut à la France choir as their own unofficial anthem, as an alternative to the Marseillaise. To make the work irresistible is a succession of brilliant marches , witty episodes and vocal numbers with astounding virtuosity , like the aria by Tonio Ah! Mes amis with its nine C's of chest . We will hear them from the impeccable voice of the great American tenor John Osborn , flanked by Giuliana Gianfaldoni 's Marieand a cast of repertoire specialists. This opera, as entertaining as it is demanding, is directed by Evelino Pidò , a very welcome return for the ambassador of romantic opera and bel canto in the world. The staging is completely new: an imaginative direction that mixes real and surreal elements with humor, as is typical of the celebrated productions of the duo Barbe & Doucet .

Le donne forti sono una costante nella produzione di Donizetti. Tra tutte, Marie, protagonista della Fille du régiment, è la più solare e insieme la meno femminile: allevata da un reggimento dell’esercito napoleonico, ha imparato ad amare la patria e… a imprecare come un soldato. Per la ragazza tutto cambia quando, giunta tra le montagne del Tirolo, scopre di essere la figlia di una marchesa; la vita aristocratica, però, la incupisce: ritroverà il sorriso e l’amore del suo adorato Tonio con l’aiuto dei suoi tanti “papà” militari.

Composta a Parigi nel 1840, questa è la prima e più fortunata opera francese di Donizetti. Messo da parte ogni snobismo, i transalpini se ne innamorarono subito e per anni adottarono il coro Salut à la France come proprio inno non ufficiale, in alternativa alla Marsigliese. A rendere il lavoro irresistibile è una successione di marce brillanti, episodi spiritosi e numeri vocali dal virtuosismo sbalorditivo, come l’aria di Tonio Ah! Mes amis con i suoi nove do di petto. Li ascolteremo dalla voce impeccabile del grande tenore americano John Osborn, affiancato dalla Marie di Giuliana Gianfaldoni e da un cast di specialisti del repertorio. Quest’opera, divertente quanto impegnativa, è diretta da Evelino Pidò, un graditissimo ritorno per l’ambasciatore dell’opera romantica e del belcanto nel mondo. Tutto nuovo l’allestimento: una regia immaginifica che mescola con umorismo elementi reali e surreali, com’è tipico delle celebrate produzioni del duo Barbe & Doucet.
