#BACKSTAGE | LA FILLE DU RÉGIMENT

Like Bellini and Rossini before him, Gaetano Donizetti, once he established his place in the Peninsula, turned his attention to Paris and its irresistible prestige. He will first create La Fille du régiment there , a popular work in its time despite a mixed review. The adaptation for Italian theaters had caused some modifications, beyond the translation of the text. La figlia del regimento will know in this form a certain success, nourished by the desire of light sopranos to shine in an entertaining role and with spectacular vocal writing. Unfortunately, the role of Tonio, victim of cuts, had lost its luster. 

In the mid-1960s, the original score, restoring Tonio's tunes, was presented at Covent Garden in London. It is by interpreting them that the young Luciano Pavarotti will find a place in the firmament of lyrical art. Since then, La Fille has regained her balance and she needs not only a first-rate soprano, but also a partner as fine a belcantist as she is. Thus, the young Regula Mühlemann will share the stage with Javier Camarena. Will he repeat his famous air at 9 counter- Cs for the Monegasque public as he has already done on the biggest stages in the world? Comme Bellini et Rossini avant lui, Gaetano Donizetti, une fois sa place établie dans la Péninsule, portera son attention sur Paris et son irrésistible prestige. Il y créera d’abord La Fille du régiment, ouvrage populaire en son temps malgré une critique mitigée. L’adaptation pour les théâtres italiens avait occasionné quelques modifications, au-delà de la traduction du texte. La figlia del regimento connaîtra sous cette forme un succès certain, nourri par le désir de sopranos légers de briller dans un rôle divertissant et à l’écriture vocale spectaculaire. Malheureusement, le rôle de Tonio, victime de coupures, y avait perdu de son éclat. 

Au milieu des années soixante, la partition originale, rétablissant les airs de Tonio, est présentée au Covent Garden de Londres. C’est en les interprétant que le jeune Luciano Pavarotti se fera une place au firmament de l’art lyrique. Depuis, La Fille a retrouvé son équilibre et il lui faut non seulement un soprano de premier ordre, mais aussi un partenaire aussi fin belcantiste qu’elle. Ainsi, la jeune Regula Mühlemann partagera la scène avec Javier Camarena.
