In this colorful land, toys have their own personalities, and their adventures are often so faithfully based on life that we watch them with a smile. So let's sit comfortably on the cushions and see how the funny story of a hardened bachelor and a clever maid will be told by the dolls from the bedside table. Part I The moody Uberto is waiting impatiently for the breakfast his maid Serpina was supposed to serve him a long time ago. Desperate, he orders Vespone's servant to find the culprit immediately. However, she does not intend to serve her employer, because she considers herself the mistress of this house. Upset, Uberto protests, but is quickly instructed by the maid that he has nothing to say here. The only way to deal with the unruly Serpine seems to be for Vespone to find a wife for Uberto to put his house in order. Serpina, hearing this, quickly declares that it's a great idea, provided that she becomes his wife. Part II It is not easy for Serpina to get Uberto engaged, but she does not give up and asks Vespone for help. She disguises him as the terrible Captain Grom Bombardon with a huge mustache and tells Uberto that the cruel man wants to marry her. At first, the plot doesn't go as planned as Uberto remains unfazed. After a while, however, he realizes that he will lose Serpine forever, and slowly his feelings begin to take over his stubbornness. Serpina forges the iron while it's hot and, together with Vespone, gives Uberto an ultimatum, either he will marry her himself or pay a lavish dowry for her. Uberto, trying to get rid of the impertinent mustache, agrees to marry Serpina. Vespone accidentally discovers his identity, but Uberto's anger is short-lived when he realizes that he loves Serpina. The performance is part of the Mobile Opera project - a series of interactive performances for children and teenagers encouraging the young audience to actively perceive opera works. The project was co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund.
