In Barrie Kosky's whimsically bizarre production of Les Contes d'Hoffmann , the eponymous artist loses himself in a disturbing nightmare of his own fantasies. Mozart's Don Giovanni becomes the starting point for a mad trip through bizarre worlds; the idolatrous admiration for the singer of Donna Anna always gives birth to new images of women: the soulless doll Olympia, the terminally ill singer Antonia, the heartless courtesan Giulietta.
