A coincidence of history or a new farce of a destiny entirely dedicated to the theater, 2022 and 2023 will celebrate in quick succession the quadricentenary of the birth and the 350th anniversary of the death of Molière. Passionate defenders of the culture of the Grand Siècle, Les Arts Florissants could not fail to make their contribution to the many commemorations that will flourish throughout the next two years around the great figure of French theater. If it is useless to repeat how the brilliant genius of Jean-Baptiste Poquelin is rechecked with each new performance and with all audiences, the place occupied by music in his work often remains underestimated or even well and truly forgotten.

Since the 80s, Les Arts Florissants have been keen to present several of its pieces in staging that is each time very noticed - we remember a colorful imaginary Malade , a Sicilian and a Doctor Love to the Comédie-Française engraved on DVD, or more recently a Monsieur de Pourceaugnac of anthology. This time, the tribute will take the form of a modern show, both in spirit and in form: directed by William Christie, this pasticcio bringing together large pages from Molière's comedies-ballets, will combine the talents of choreographer Hubert Hazebroucq and the playwright Vincent Boussard, whose ensemble had already presented a moving Dido in 2000. Following the thread of a plot written especially for this show, a host of solo singers (to which four dancers from the Compagnie Les Corps Éloquents will join) will alternate sung airs and purely theatrical play to make us rediscover the jubilant universe comedies-ballets.

A colorful show where we will see how music is the theater's best ally: Molière is never savored as well as when Lully and Charpentier take their rightful place at his side.
