Intrigue, lust for power and passion are the ingredients that make the characters' blood boil in Claudio Monteverdi's ›The Coronation of Poppea‹.

In the empire of Emperor Nero, the noble lady Poppea is pursuing an ambitious goal: she wants to become an empress. Nero promises Poppea to cast out his wife Ottavia in order to smooth Poppea's way to the throne. Ottavia plots revenge and instigates Ottone, Poppea's former lover, to murder the aspiring empress...

In 1607, Claudio Monteverdi paved the way for opera with ›L'Orfeo‹. With his last musical theater work, ›Poppea‹ (1642/43), the composer turned to historical material for the first time. Immo Karaman (director and stage) and Fabian Posca (costumes and choreography) return to our house for this early baroque masterpiece full of sex and crime.

Im Jahr 1607 wird Claudio Monteverdi mit ›L’Orfeo‹ zum Wegbereiter der Oper. Mit seinem letzten Musiktheaterwerk, der ›Poppea‹ (1642 / 43), wendet sich der Komponist zum ersten Mal einem historischen Stoff zu. Für dieses frühbarocke Meisterwerk voller Sex and Crime kehren Immo Karaman (Regie und Bühne) und Fabian Posca (Kostüme und Choreografie) an unser Haus zurück.
