The operetta is alive! She combines gross nonsense with philosophical approaches, mixes tears of joy with those of deepest pain and dances on the volcano while the world is going down. Travesty and indecentities hold up the mirror to the audience, operetta breaks the boundaries of prudery unchecked, makes some things socially acceptable that no one dares to express. But in 1933 clouds came up in the operetta firmament. In the course of a few years, a largely Jewish genre of art became a German “clean man” version, which tried to fill its empty veins with slogans and calendar sheet poetry. The fun and thrill turned into defused entertainment with a smoothly polished surface - a narcotic. Paul Abraham, Fritzi Massary, Richard Tauber, Emmerich Kálmán and many others who made it in time fled Germany and shortly afterwards from Austria. There a resigned Franz Lehár held the position, while Fred Raymond, Friedrich Schröder or Arno Vetterling let the operetta dance from the edge of the volcano straight into the abyss
