Mozart's operas "The Abduction from the Seraglio" and "Cosi fan tutte" tell of this fear-tickling, as does Joseph Haydn's "The Apothecary". “Lo Speziale” was premiered – praised by many as Haydn's best opera! – 1768 for the opening of the opera house at Esterhazy Palace, where the composer was the first conductor to head the orchestra. Empress Maria Theresia also attended one of the performances of this opera buffa, which is based on a template by Carlo Goldoni and began its triumphal march from Hungary. The loud compagney is now bringing the confusing comedy back to the stage. True to their historical performance practice. On the other hand, the libretto of this musical comedy, which tells the story of the enterprising pharmacist Sempronio, is complete. He has his eye on his pretty foster daughter Grilletta, but primarily speculates on the lavish dowry. With the bon vivant Volpino, a rival soon appears on the scene. And Sempronio shouldn't underestimate the pharmacist's assistant Mengone, who genuinely has a passion for Grilletta. A charade of deception begins, in the course of which two Turkish noblemen unexpectedly open the pharmacy... As catchy as the plot is, Haydn's singing parts are just as challenging. An extraordinary cast must have been available to him at the time. And so it is in this new production.
