Rockdale Opera Company is excited to present Gaetano Donizetti's dramatic opera, Lucia di Lammermoor. The opera is loosely based on Sir Walter Scott's 1819 historical novel 'The Bride of Lammermoor.' It tells the story of the emotionally fragile Lucia who is caught in a feud between her own family and that of the Ravenswoods, with the inevitable tragic outcome. Lucia's stunning aria in the "mad scene" is justifiably famous, but equally brilliant is the spine-tingling sextet at the end of Act II and Raimondo's heart-rending aria in which he recounts Lucia's descent into madness and the tragedy that has unfolded. Donizetti's score is filled with beautiful lyrical arias, dramatically challenging pieces and rousing choruses.
