Miracle healer or charlatan? With his "animal magnetism" as a science of the attraction of souls, Franz Anton Mesmer heated up tempers. In the partner-swapping opera »Così fan tutte«, a friend of his, Mozart, applied the method to comedy. He probably wrote his piano concerto KV 256 for Mesmer's most famous »case«, the blind pianist Maria Theresia Paradis, who played in Paris for Queen Marie-Antoinette, to whom Haydn's symphony is dedicated. For his most beautiful concert aria, Mozart joins forces with his girlfriend Nancy Storace at the piano. Musical soul magnetism is definitely not an empty delusion.
