Back – Friday 10 March, 8.30 pm and Sunday 12 March, 4.30 pm – at the Teatro Goldoni in Livorno after a decade of absence MANON LESCAUT , Giacomo Puccini's youthful work staged for the first time with great success at the Teatro Regio in Turin in 1893: the first theatrical creation in which the genius of the great composer from Lucca is fully revealed, before the clamorous consecration of the "popular trilogy" composed of Bohème (1896), Tosca (1900) and Madama Butterfly (1904). Manon is a work of great musical and theatrical strength, suspended between the moods of an extreme romanticism of Wagnerian ancestry, the suggestions of the French musical theater of the late nineteenth century, the influences of verismo which has recently blossomed with Mascagna's Cavalleria and the neoclassical temptations linked to stylization of the elegant and corrupt eighteenth-century environment in which the tragic love passion that binds the protagonist to Renato Des Grieux is consummated: an overwhelming and fatal love that made Manon Lescaut speak of an "Italian-style" Tristan and Isolde. The return of Manonpucciniana at Goldoni is linked to the survey on the production of the Tuscan composer, fellow student and friend-rival of the Labronic Mascagni, already undertaken by our Theater for some years with the proposals in the last few seasons of titles such as Bohème, Tosca and Butterfly and with the Fanciulla of the West for next season. The new staging curated by the Teatro Goldoni and co-produced with the Teatro Verdi of Pisa and the Teatro Sociale of Rovigo, will have Alberto Veronesi , the internationally renowned conductor and President of the Pucciniano festival and the Roman director Lev Pugliese as managers of the show , who also signs the sets and costumes, particularly sensitive to the new languages ​​of virtual staging, which will focus, in this new production almost entirely in-house on a dreamlike and psychological reading of Puccini's work, starting from that desert and from that " wasteland" in which the story ends, a true expression of the "desert of the soul" of the protagonist. Castof great interest, with two acclaimed Puccini interpreters, Rachele Stanici and Donata D'Annunzio Lombardi , in the title role, the presence of a Puccini specialist such as the Brazilian tenor Ricardo Tamura repeatedly applauded protagonist at the Metropolitan in New York, who will be replaced by Danilo Formaggia highly acclaimed in Livorno in Maschere mascagnane of the centenary and for some years inclined to deepen lyric-spinto roles; next to them the expert Sergio Bologna in the role of Lescaut who will alternate with the Korean baritone Leon Kim, already winners of numerous international competitions; the Geronte role of Ravoirit will be interpreted in both performances by the baritone Carmine Monaco d'Ambrosìa , also an artist of great experience and applauded in the Tuscan Theaters last year as an interpreter in the Merry Widow produced by LTL Opera Studio; with them young artists, largely linked to the training projects of the Theater or expression of our territory.
