Dutch violinist Maria Milstein will solo in Schubert and Sibelius. After intermission, the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra plays Tchaikovsky's Souvenir de Florence.

Maria Milstein plays Schubert and Sibelius
Maria Milstein, artist in residence in season 2021/2022 at the AVROTROS Friday Concert, has been one of the absolute top violinists in our country for many years. In 2012 she was a semi-finalist at the Queen Elisabeth Competition and in 2018 she won the Dutch Music Prize, the most prestigious prize in music known to our country. Before intermission, she will solo with the strings of the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra in two short, magnificent works by Schubert and Sibelius. As a change, two lyrical pieces for strings: Lyric by American George Walker and an intimate adagio from one of Beethoven's last string quartets, music the composer himself considered the best he had written.

After intermission, the strings of the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra will play Souvenir deFlorence. Tchaikovsky regularly traveled to Italy to rest his tormented soul a bit. He even spent four months in Florence, enjoying the Mediterranean atmosphere. He recorded this in a large string sextet as a "memory of Florence. Russian melancholy wrapped in the warmth of the Italian sun. In the adagio you can see Tchaikovsky in front of you on a terrace, where a local violinist, accompanied by a few mandolins, serenades you sensitively. Michael Waterman, leader of the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, made his own arrangement of this romantic composition for string orchestra.

De Nederlandse violiste Maria Milstein soleert in Schubert en Sibelius. Na de pauze speelt het Concertgebouw Kamerorkest Tsjaikovski’s Souvenir de Florence. 

Het Italiaanse zonnetje schijnt op het gezicht en verwarmt je hart. Met zijn Souvenir de Florence verklankte Tsjaikovski de ziel van zijn geliefkoosde Florence. Herinneringen aan de mooiste vakantieavonturen komen naar boven. Het Concertgebouw Kamerorkest kent de kracht van muziek en rijgt voor dit concert de mooiste orkestpareltjes aaneen.

Maria Milstein, artist in residence in seizoen 2021/2022 bij het AVROTROS Vrijdagconcert, behoort al heel wat jaren tot de absolute top van violisten in ons land. In 2012 was ze halve finalist bij de Koningin Elisabethwedstrijd en in 2018 won ze de Nederlandse Muziekprijs, de meest prestigieuze prijs op muziekgebied, die ons land kent. Voor de pauze soleert ze met de strijkers van het Concertgebouw Kamerorkest in twee korte maar schitterende werken van Schubert en Sibelius. Ter afwisseling twee lyrische stukken voor strijkers: Lyric van de Amerikaan George Walker en een innig adagio uit één van Beethovens laatste strijkkwartetten, muziek die de componist zelf beschouwde als het beste dat hij had geschreven.

Na de pauze spelen de strijkers van het Concertgebouw Kamerorkest Souvenir de Florence. Regelmatig reisde Tsjaikovski naar Italië om zijn gekwelde ziel wat tot rust te laten komen. Hij bivakkeerde zelfs vier maanden in Florence en genoot er van de mediterrane sfeer. Die legde hij vast in een groot strijksextet als ‘herinnering aan Florence’. Russische weemoed verpakt in de warmte van de Italiaanse zon. In het adagio zie je Tsjaikovski voor je op een terrasje, waar een plaatselijke violist onder begeleiding van enkele mandolines een gevoelige serenade brengt. Michael Waterman, leider van het Concertgebouw Kamerorkest, maakte van deze romantische compositie een eigen bewerking voor strijkorkest.
