In a programme from St Magnus International Festival, we are delighted to welcome the celebrated Swedish string orchestra, Musica Vitae and director/cellist Robin Michael to perform works by composers including JS & CPE Bach, and their Scottish contemporary James Oswald, alongside music by Lisa Robertson and two ever-popular works by festival founder Peter Maxwell Davies.
St Magnus Festival, founded by long-time resident Peter Maxwell Davies, looks to Orkney’s Nordic roots this year with a residency by the Swedish string orchestra, Musica Vitae. Oswald’s Sonata from the Scottish Baroque meets music by JS Bach and his son framing a new cello concerto by current festival director Alasdair Nicolson.  Lisa Robertson’s work paints a picture of an Orkney rock-stack landmark and the concert ends with two ever-popular works by Maxwell Davies.
