These sounds may seem familiar to one or the other, because in MY FAIR LADY the upper class introduces itself to its audience with this classic song: The ASCOT Gavotte, sung here by the BADIAN STATE OPERA CHOIR. The gavotte is not only part of the corona-compliant version of MY FAIR LADY, but also of the choir program ON THE WINGS OF SINGING - the most beautiful opera choirs from four centuries. Unfortunately, due to the corona, its PREMIERE has to be postponed; Nevertheless, we are pleased to be able to present a part of it today! ON THE WINGS OF SING - Trailer

“It's so green when Spain's blossoms are in bloom.” - Almost every song is so well known that you can sing along with it! With My Fair Lady , the STAATSTHEATER breaks up its operetta line and shows you the classic musical from Broadway, which has been thrilling again and again since its first German production in Berlin in 1961 in the Theater des Westens. Eliza, a poor flower seller, becomes the object of a bet between linguist Prof. Higgins and Colonel Pickering. Higgins' ambition is to bring them from the lower to the upper class through tough language and behavior training. Not only is the previous life of her and her father turned upside down, Prof. Higgins also takes the whole thing with him more than he would like to admit. Because suddenly an abstract scientific experiment turns into real life fates!

The piece is in the best of hands with British director Sam Brown and set designer Annemarie Woods. In 2011 they both won the most important prizes for young opera directors: the European Opera Directing Award and the Ring Award. In Karlsruhe, the team could already be seen staging The Victory of Time and Truth / The Victory of Beauty and Deception at the HÄNDEL-FESTSPIELEN 2013.
