The New Year Gala, co-produced by the Athens Concert Hall and the Athens State Orchestra, has for years now been an integral part of the New Year celebrations—something like a coveted musical "good luck charm" for the New Year! This year, the Gala’s theme is musicals— that complex music theatre genre which combines theatre, dance and music and is loved like no other—especially the works from its Golden Age between the 1940s and 1960s. Under the baton of maestro Michalis Economou, selected singers with a proven track record in this unique and popular style sing melodies that left their mark on New York's Broadway and London's West End, promising to add glamour and joy to this New Year's Eve.

Το Πρωτοχρονιάτικο γκαλά, συμπαραγωγή του Μεγάρου Μουσικής Αθηνών και της Κρατικής Ορχήστρας Αθηνών, έχει γίνει εδώ και χρόνια αναπόσπαστο κομμάτι του εορτασμού της Πρωτοχρονιάς, κάτι σαν ένα πολυπόθητο μουσικό «γούρι» για το Νέο Έτος! Φέτος, θεματικός άξονας του γκαλά είναι το μιούζικαλ. Το σύνθετο αυτό είδος του μουσικού θεάτρου που συνδυάζει θέατρο, χορό και μουσική, αγαπήθηκε όσο κανένα άλλο, ιδιαίτερα τα έργα της Χρυσής του Εποχής από τη δεκαετία του ’40 ως τη δεκαετία του ’60. Εκλεκτοί τραγουδιστές, με εγνωσμένη ικανότητα να υπηρετούν το ξεχωριστό και δημοφιλές αυτό στιλ, τραγουδούν υπό την μπαγκέτα του μαέστρου Μιχάλη Οικονόμου μελωδίες που άφησαν εποχή στο Broadway της Νέας Υόρκης και στο West End του Λονδίνου υποσχόμενοι να επενδύσουν τη φετινή Πρωτοχρονιά με τη λάμψη και τη χαρά αυτής της μουσικής.
