Cavatina "Casta Diva" is a reference embodiment of the bel canto style and one of the symbols of operatic art, while "Norma" is a recognized masterpiece of musical romanticism.
However, despite the popularity of the Bellini opera in the world, it is rarely staged in Russia, and was presented in Perm for the first time: the premiere took place in the summer of 2022.
In terms of poetry, "Norma" reached the height of ancient Greek tragedies. Norma is a romantic imprint of the ancient Medea. The high priestess, she broke her vows for the sake of love for the enemy commander and bore him two sons, but, having learned that he cheated on her, she is tormented by conflicting feelings - from a thirst for revenge to readiness for self-sacrifice. The finale reconciles the lovers, but you cannot call it happy.
“A musical drama requires the characters to cry, suffer and, dying, continue to sing” – the composer’s creative credo was fully reflected in his Norma. “Of all the works of Bellini, it was in this opera that deep realism, melodic richness and the most intimate feelings were combined,” Richard Wagner noted.
The cavatina of the title character of "Casta Diva" is considered one of the most difficult, and it is not surprising that the names of the best performers are known even to the general public. Maria Callas, Montserrat Caballe, Galina Vishnevskaya, Cecilia Bartoli... This is a real creative challenge, but if successful, it guarantees the singer the status of an opera diva.

Каватина «Casta Diva» – эталонное воплощение стиля бельканто и один из символов оперного искусства, а «Норма» – признанный шедевр музыкального романтизма.
Однако несмотря на популярность оперы Беллини в мире, она нечасто ставится в России, а в Перми и вовсе была представлена впервые: премьера состоялась летом 2022 года.
По уровню поэзии «Норма» достигла высоты древнегреческих трагедий. Норма и есть романтический оттиск античной Медеи. Верховная жрица, она нарушила обеты ради любви к врагу-полководцу и родила ему двоих сыновей, но, узнав, что тот изменил ей, терзается противоречивыми чувствами – от жажды мести до готовности к самопожертвованию. Финал примиряет возлюбленных, но счастливым его не назовешь.
«Музыкальная драма требует, чтобы герои плакали, страдали и, умирая, продолжали петь» — творческое кредо композитора полностью отразилось в его «Норме». «Из всех творений Беллини именно в этой опере соединились глубокая реалистичность, мелодическое богатство и наиболее сокровенные чувства», – отмечал Рихард Вагнер.
Каватина заглавной героини «Casta Diva» считается одной из сложнейших, и не удивительно, что имена лучших исполнительниц известны даже широкой публике. Мария Каллас, Монтсеррат Кабалье, Галина Вишневская, Чечилия Бартоли... Это настоящий творческий вызов, но в случае успеха он гарантирует певице статус оперной дивы.
