Join Lead Teaching Artist, Sarah Laughland, for this in-person session of Opera Starts with Oh! exploring the story of Esther, a famous biblical tale of the Queen of Persia! This program will prepare us for Opera Lafayette’s concert opera From Saint-Cyr to Cannons: Moreau and Handel’s Esther coming to DC’s Kennedy Center on February 8th, 2024. Get your tickets today! 


Come with us, as we explore the famous story of Esther, a young Jewish woman who became the second wife to King Ahasuerus of Persia. As Queen, she risked her life to save the Jewish people from destruction!

We’ll dive into the music of Esther with cellist, Ishanathan Guteng, and learn more about the cello as an instrument and what it takes to be a professional musician. Actor and theater educator, Drew Kopas, will take us on a journey into the world of acting and how you bring these incredible characters to life! You’ll get to create and take home your very own craft instrument, so you can continue the fun at home. We can’t wait to see you there!
